Poetry and Music

Daily, I sit by the window, and look outside,
and wonder when it would be safe enough
or when I would be brave enough. Today,
the sky, a robin’s egg — uncommon on a
Desert May, most often, it would be too
warm now, and the heavens would mirror
the sand, the singing would come only
from the shamal, but today, outside my
window, the birds are gloriously singing
a song, my human voice could never learn,
would not need to, have no desire to, simply
listening is just as wonderful if not better.
